Welcome to some of the best snowmobiling in Minnesota, with a varying terrain that makes for exciting riding and spectacular scenery. The Edge of the Wilderness Resort Area is located in the heart of Minnesota’s prime snowmobiling region with trails branching in all directions waiting to be explored.

There are more than 1,000 miles of groomed snowmobile trails here regarded as some of the finest in the state. Nowhere does snowmobiling in Minnesota get any better. Itasca County’s Trail system ties into the popular Taconite Trail linking all of Northern Minnesota. The area snowmobile clubs work hard to keep our trails in top condition, as do our local county and state trail groomers. You won’t find a more dedicated and fun-loving group of people. Be sure to stop in at an area clubhouse for a break and meet some new friends.
With an annual average snowfall of nearly 5 feet, it’s no wonder that people from around the country come to this region of Minnesota to experience the best snow, our comfortable accommodations, and the incredible winter scenery of the Northwoods. More than 200 kilometers of cross-country ski trails await your adventurous spirit in Northern Minnesota’s Edge of the Wilderness Area. Come and explore the heavy pine and hardwood forests, aspen-covered side hills, across lowland swamps and snow-covered frozen lakes, and beside beautiful scenic overlooks. The area’s 19 well-groomed ski trails provide both classic and freestyle skiing on varied terrain, making cross-country skiing enjoyable for the beginner, intermediate and experts.

Get Out and Play in the Snow!
Enjoy nature’s peace and quite firsthand as you snowshoe along the forest floor and across the frozen lakes of the Edge of the Wilderness Area. The only sounds you’ll hear are the crunching of the snow with every step and the whisper of the wind as it makes its way through the pines and hardwoods. Quite often you will be treated to a view of deer, rabbit and fox and maybe even a snowy owl.
