Judy Garland Museum

Restored childhood home of Judy Garland where the star spent her first four years.  Judy’s home has been restored to look just as it did when the child star lived there with her parents and two older sisters.  See the staircase landing where Judy and her sisters provided entertainment for neighborhood friends with their earliest performances.  The grounds feature a memorial flower garden and gazebo.  The adjacent museum gallery showcases a wide variety of artifacts from Judy’s musical and theatrical career, personal awards and effects, movie memorabilia, and the carriage used in The Wizard of Oz. An extensive gift shop is filled with Wizard of Oz and Judy Garland items.

Chippewa National Forest

The Chippewa National Forest, located in the heart of northern Minnesota, is a celebration of seasons, culture and environment.

The Chippewa National Forest is the first National Forest established east of the Mississippi River in 1908 and is the home to more lakes and wetlands than any other National Forest. The forest was originally known as the Minnesota National Forest. The name was changed in 1928 to honor the original inhabitants. Today, the Forest and Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe share goals and offer visitors a chance to experience Anishinabe culture and learn about the past from prehistory to early, logging-era and Civilian Conservation Corps days.

Edge of the Wilderness Discovery Center

The Edge of the Wilderness Discovery Center located in Marcell, MN is a visitor & environmental education center that is home to a variety of interpretive displays & exhibits about the Edge of the Wilderness National Scenic Byway and surrounding area. It includes area information, gift shop, environmental education room, outdoor amphitheater, interpretive trail fishing/wildlife-watching pier, and offers FREE naturalist programs throughout the summer.

Summer hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday through Monday.

Children's Discovery Museum

Fun Educational Family Museum!

A place for children to discover, play and learn. Our museum features many hands-on exhibits: Lake Life! complete with working stage, fishing boat and dock, as well as an obstacle course swamp and tree fort!, Riverview Water Table, Treesa~ the talking tree, KEVA Engineering Planks, Monthly scavenger hunts, River Town which hosts: a Doctors office, Fire Department, Animal Clinic, Bakery, Music Department, dress-up room, and much more.   We also have a tot park and maze for younger guests. Don't forget to stop and dig for some dinosaurs! On your way out check out the museum store for children’s gifts.

Mt. Itasca

Hills and trails open year-round for hiking and biking. Glorious fall colors! Snow guns fire up in November! By early December Pisten Bully grooming for cross-country skiing, biathlon, Alpine skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping and tubing. Three lifts and main chalet open with concessions and equipment rental.

Instruction, coaching, games, skills drills, racing and competition offered for all ages and abilities. “Flying Children” ski jump off the 10- and 20-meter hills. Advanced jumpers are spectacular in flight off the 40- and 70-meter jumps.

Believing that our knowledge of the past enhances our understanding of the present, the Itasca County Historical Society is dedicated to connecting people to the history of Itasca County.

Throughout the year, Itasca County Historical Society offers the following services and programs to the general public, students, members, teachers, researchers, genealogists, businesses and special interests groups. Allow the Itasca County Historical Society to bring history to life in a format and style that works for you – as an individual, a family, a student, or business. Programs and services: Traveling Exhibits, Speaker’s Bureau, Workshops, Research, Internet Access, Ancestry.com, Photograph Reproduction, Volunteer Opportunities, and Museum Tours. 

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has a 13 member board of directors. Itasca County Historical Society is located in what formerly was the Corcoran Building, we now have the museum, gift shop, Karjala Research Genealogy and History Center, and soon our storage which has over 50,000 artifacts, archives, photographs and library items.
