Events in the Edge of the Wilderness

North Star Stampede: Effie, MN 68th Annual! The full last weekend in July, it runs Friday through Sunday (5 pm on Friday and 2 pm on Saturday and Sunday). The Rodeo and many more events take place over this weekend.

Arts & Craft Show: Held the first Friday in August. Sponsored by the Hospital Auxiliaries.

Edge of the Wilderness Kid’s Fishing Day: June 21, 2025 8:30am to 12:00pm at the Edge of the Wilderness Discovery Center in Marcell, MN. Hosted by the Edge of the Wilderness Discovery Center, US Forest Service, Bigfork Lions Club, and Marcell Family Center. Local guides help with fishing in the morning then on to a shore lunch. Fall Color Tour: September is the time to catch the spectacular fall colors of our area. Travel along Edge of the Wilderness National Scenic Byway (Hwy. 38) or take the Chippewa National Forest Fall Color Tour.

Bargains are Great on Highway 38: 47 miles of Garage Sales! September 19 & 21, 2025. Always the 3rd weekend in September.

Bigfork School: High School Spring Concert in April and Elementary & High School Winter Concert in December. Extracurricular events include Speech Night, Homecoming Events and Winter Fest. Athletic events include Volleyball, Football, Girls and Boys Basketball, Track and Golf.

Marcell Family Center: The Marcell Family Center hosts a variety of community, youth, education, computer, recreation, and special interest programs & events throughout the year. Call: 218-832-3444 for more information.

Edge of the Wilderness Discovery Center: The Edge of the Wilderness Discovery Center provides a variety of environmental education programs & events throughout the year. The EOWDC also has indoor interpretive displays, an interpretive trail, fishing pier, picnic area, and more. Call: 218-832-3161 for more information.

The Edge Center for the Arts: The Edge Center features a 283-seat theatre with a complete fly loft and orchestra pit. Located adjacent to the Bigfork School, this unique community asset features a wide variety of entertainment events.

Edge Center Gallery: The Edge Center Gallery is in the lobby of The Edge Center for the Arts. This large space provides room for exhibits, which change monthly from March through December. The gallery is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 1-4 pm. During the winter months the gallery’s permanent collection will be on display and may be viewed when events are in the theater.
